ChessAI4U Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

ChessAI4U ("the app") is a chess learning and playing app for players of all ages, published by Deniz Çelik ("we"). This policy explains what information the app uses, why, and the choices you have. A short Turkish summary is at the end.

Summary

Information the app uses

1. Data stored only on your device

Your progress (puzzle rating, streak, lessons, mistakes review, badges), your optional nickname and avatar, settings (language, sound, board theme, reminder time, whether a child or an adult is playing) and, if you choose to sign in, the birth year you entered at the age check are stored on your device. The birth year is never uploaded.

2. Usage and crash information (Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, Google)

To understand which features are used and to fix crashes, the app sends anonymous usage events (for example "puzzle session finished", with counts only) and crash reports (device model, operating system version, app version, error details). These are linked to a random app-instance identifier, not to your name or email. Advertising ID collection and ad personalisation signals are turned off.

3. Anonymous online identity (Firebase Authentication, Google)

When you use online features (playing a friend with a game code, finding an opponent, a teacher–student lesson), the app creates a random anonymous user ID. It does not identify you personally.

4. Optional Google sign-in and cloud backup (13+)

If you are 13 or older and choose to sign in with Google, Firebase Authentication receives your Google account identifier, email address, and the display name and profile picture address on your Google account, so you can sign in again later. We do not store your email in our database. Your app progress, optional nickname and avatar, and settings are then backed up to Google Cloud Firestore under your user ID, so you can restore them on a new phone. Purchases are not part of the backup; they are restored from Google Play.

5. Online games (Cloud Firestore, Google)

A game with a friend stores the game code, the two random user IDs, the moves, the clocks and the result. There is no chat.

Find an opponent. While you search, a short waiting record is stored: your random user ID, the game length, your playing-strength band rounded to 100 (for example 1000) and the time. It is deleted when you are matched or stop searching. Your opponent sees only "Opponent" and your moves: no name, nickname, picture, language, country or chat. Online game records are deleted by the app from one hour after a finished game (24 hours for an unfinished one), the next time either player opens the online page; anything left over is deleted on request. Matching only happens while you are on the "Find an opponent" screen and waiting; it never happens in the background.

Friend's challenge. If you send a friend a position to solve, the app stores the position, its best move, your random user ID, how many players tried and solved it, and the time. It is set to expire after 30 days.

6. Teacher–student features (when available)

A student can connect to a teacher only by entering a code the teacher gives them, after a parent approves on the device. The teacher sees the student's nickname, game and puzzle summaries, mistake types, lessons and homework results. Teachers cannot search for students, and there is no free-text chat; teachers can only send ready-made hint cards. Either side can disconnect at any time, and a student can report a teacher from the app.

7. No advertising

The app shows no ads: no banners, no full-screen ads and no rewarded videos. No advertising service is started and the advertising ID is not used. If we ever decide to show ads, we will update this policy before that version is released.

8. Purchases (Google Play Billing)

Coach Pro and Coach Pro Teacher subscriptions are handled by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details. The app checks with Google Play whether a subscription is active.

9. Notifications

Optional reminders are scheduled on your device. No notification content is sent through our servers.

10. Talking coach (text-to-speech)

The talking coach reads coach tips, hints and lesson steps aloud using the voices installed on your phone (the phone's text-to-speech engine on Android, the system voice on iPhone). Only the app's own ready-made sentences are read; players cannot type free text. The app only uses voices that work offline, so these sentences are not sent anywhere. You can turn the talking coach off in Settings.

Children

The app is designed to be safe for children and follows the Google Play Families policy. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13: account sign-in is blocked for players under 13, there are no ads, and there is no chat. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. Information is processed only by the Google services listed above (Firebase, Google Cloud Firestore, Google Play) on our behalf. Their privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Keeping and deleting your data

Security

Data sent to Google services is encrypted in transit. Access to cloud data is restricted by security rules so that only you (and, for teacher–student features, your connected teacher) can read it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
