How it works

A chess coach that turns every mistake into a lesson

Instead of just showing you a number after the game, ChessAI4U closes the loop: it notices the mistake, keeps it, and brings it back until it's gone.

1
The coach pointing out a fork during a game

Play. The coach talks you through it.

While you play, the coach spots forks, loose pieces and threats and says so, out loud if you like. A hint never gives the move away; it helps you find it.

2
My Mistake Notebook: the move from the game, the move you just tried and the better move, each with its own arrow

Your mistake next to the better move.

Every slip lands in My Mistake Notebook. When it comes back, you play it again and see three moves: in the game, now, and the better one.

3
The coach page: your mistake types and how often you make them

The coach learns your patterns.

After a few games the coach knows your most frequent mistake, in which part of the game you make it, and whether you're improving week to week.

4
The coach page: today's step and your mistakes moving towards mastery

Practice until it sticks.

Each mistake comes back after 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days until you master it. Every day the coach gives you one small step: fix a few mistakes, or play a game and watch out for one thing.

Also: one free game review every day, where you go through your game with the coach.

Try it: how the coach reviews a mistake

In the app, mistakes from your own games land in My Mistake Notebook by themselves and come back after 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days.

The mistakes the coach recognises

Every mistake gets a name and one piece of advice, so you know what to watch for next time.

  • Missed checkmateBefore every move, list all checks. A mating idea often starts with a check.
  • Allowed checkmateAfter choosing a move, ask: can my opponent give check or mate next turn?
  • Hung a pieceBefore you release the piece, look at the square it lands on. Is it protected?
  • Uneven tradeCount attackers and defenders before capturing. Take only if you come out ahead.
  • Ignored a threatAfter each opponent move, ask first: what is it attacking now?
  • Left a piece hangingCheck all your pieces before moving, not only the one you are moving.
  • A free piece was there to takeScan for unprotected enemy pieces on every turn before making a plan.
  • Missed a strong checkChecks, captures, threats: look at them in that order every move.
  • Opening mistakeDevelop knights and bishops, control the center, castle early.
  • Plan and positionImprove your worst-placed piece, and keep your king safe.

Your first mistake is waiting. So is your coach.
